The Under-the-Radar Line You Need to Know Posted by Beauty Blitz at October 19, 2010 10:59 AM
One of the perks of being a beauty editor is getting to know even the most obscure beauty brands that fall off the mainstream radar. Thanks to Sephora, some of these unique brands end up getting plenty of exposure, but there are still plenty more that are like a fun little secret. Koh Gen Do falls into that undiscovered category.
Developed by beauty experts in Japan, the brand is known for its HD-quality makeup blended with soothing Asian herbs. Thanks to an actress who wanted to create products that nurtured her stressed-out skin, Koh Gen Do is now a staple in showbiz.
Now that you know about Koh Gen Do, let me vouch for their amazing Moisture Concealer For Professional. It comes in only one shade - but that shade has two pots of concealer in light and dark. You just mix the two in the built-in mixing palette, and - voila! - your very own custom shade. It applies easily and even has pearl powders and mineral pigments to address redness and discoloration that bright lighting can accent. Even if you're not heading to a movie set, the benefits are worth it. Fluorescent lighting can be hideous!
Another one of my faves is the Oriental Plants Cleansing Cream. I'm usually only a fan of oil cleansers to gently wash away my waterproof mascara, but this moisturizing cream got rid of every last trace. Plus, I love that it contains 36 botanical extracts and zero parabens.
So how would one ever discover this brand? Word of mouth, I suppose. Or in movie credits. But finally it's hit the big time: the products are now sold at Barney's and barneys.com, so you can make Koh Gen Do one of your beauty secrets!
